Caravans/Motorhomes may be used all year round, but when not in use, even for a short period, the procedure listed below should be followed. One night of freezing temperatures is all that is required for expensive permanent damage to water system components.
1. The whole system must be drained.
a. The carver cascade water heater must be drained by unscrewing the drain plug, which is located on the outside of the flue cowl. It is recommended that the heater is warm to improve draining efficiency and that the drain plug is removed until setting the system up again. For truma ultrastore and combi boilers lift the yellow drain lever.
b. Remove cold water drain plug ( if fitted ) normally located under the Caravan/Motorhome near to the water inlet socket, if you would like to fit a drain plug please contact us.
c. Open all taps and leave open.
2. Remove tap spouts and leave off.
a. To remove spouts and shower head, unscrew by hand, then shake out water and leave in a dry place.
3. When system is drained, remove water filters.
4. Submersible pumps should be shaken out and stored in a dry place.
5. Drain Thetford Toilet Tank.
6. Cover taps and water heater with some old towels or foam for better protection.
SETTING UP THE WATER SYSTEM
1. Replace/Close all drain valves.
2. Replace shower head and tap spouts.
3. Close all taps.
4. Refit Filter.
a. Check all pumping connections.
b. It is recommended at this point to sterilise your containers and flush the system through with sterilising fluid.
5. Remove old filter after flushing through and fit a new one. It is also recommended that the water system is checked during annual service.
